My Dog Raider
By Jackie Omicioli
Raider came into my life 2 years ago. I adopted him while my brother was in the hospital. He is a black german shepherd who my brother rescued from the JUNK YARD!. He was born in the wild and wild he was! When I went to bring him home, he readily jumped into my Geo Metro and sat on my lap while growling, barking and licking my glasses at the same time. I had to put his leash on and tie him to the passenger side door so I could see where I was going. I still remember his teeth snarling at me the entire ride. 30 minutes is a long time in a Geo Metro with a dog that you have never met. He stayed with me until my brother got out of the hospital and moved in, too. In the past two years Raider has managed to turn my entire lawn yellow, if you know what I mean, and has dug up every flower bed I have. He now runs the household, running from the first floor to the third, with a basket of toys on each floor. He will not allow a day to go by without being taken for his walk, and he even knows that it happens every day at 9am sharp! We have an enclosed gazebo in our back yard and he has surely taken that over as his own "dog house". He watches cartoons, is hand fed his treats and basically is the most spoiled dog that I have ever known. Raider has 3 friends in Tennessee. I met Debra, now my best friend, thru an Online Business that we were both involved in almost 2 years ago. When I went down to visit last year, I got to meet her 3 poochies live and in person. They are the most adorable threesome. Their names are Rascal, Lucie and Coco. Raider "speaks" with them every time I am on the phone with Debrah. I am quite sure that Raider can never actually meet his buddies in person, because he likes to chew up toys bigger than them. Raider will have to settle for a long distance friendship. He is now 7 years old and I dred the day that he is no longer a part of my life. He has totally changed the lives of everyone residing in my home. He creates that focus point when you walk in the door, and the stresses of the day seem to disappear when you see his ridiculously silly looking face! I know the day will come when that silly face will no longer greet me after a stressful day, but I am secretly hoping that that day doesn't come for many, many years to come. |
